Pipe  Society

Documenting the Pipe Smoking Community

Composer and professor Dan Locklair reflects on his lifelong relationship with music, his morning ritual of pipe smoking, and the discipline of playing J.S. Bach each day to maintain his keyboard skills and creative focus.

Filmed in his studio, Locklair shares how the quiet consistency of this routine—beginning the day with a pipe and a piece by Bach—grounds his creative life and connects him to the legacy of composers past.

Music performed by Dan Locklair:

• Prelude in G Major (from The Well-Tempered Clavier, Book II) by J.S. Bach — piano

• The People Respond – Amen (from Rubrics) by Dan Locklair — organ

• The Peace May Be Exchanged (from Rubrics) by Dan Locklair — organ
